Tenants' anger at move to demolish more than 120 homes in Bradford

SOME tenants have reacted angrily to bombshell news that more than 120 homes in Bradford are to be demolished by a social housing landlord.
Incommunities is to pull down Ashton House, Osmond House and Taunton House in Croscombe Walk, Little Horton, which it says are difficult to let.
The three, eight-storey block of flats contain a total of 123 one or two bedroom flats.
Incommunities says at least one-fifth of the flats are empty and each block has a high turnover of tenancies.
It wants to redevelop the site for higher demand family-sized houses, saying it is now "unviable" to maintain the three blocks of flats.
Letters sent to residents informing them that they will have to move have provoked anger among some.
Philip Dean, 56, who has lived in a one-bedroom flat in Taunton House for the last four years, said: "I'm absolutely devastated.
"They are breaking up a good community.
"I love this place and I love the people. There has been no consultation with the tenants. It's not right.
"It looks like a done deal and the decision has already been made.
"They have totally dismembered people's lives."
Maria Holt, 31, who has lived in a one-bedroom flat in Osmond House for the last two years, said: "It stinks.
"I'm annoyed. I just blew up when I found out the news.
"It's a decent block of flats. Why are they doing it? I really like it here."
Michael Hudson, 52, who has lived in his seventh floor, one-bedroom flat in Ashton House since 1994, said he was confused by the decision to knock down the three blocks of flats.
"Not too long ago they spent a lot of money putting new windows and doors and and fixed the roof. Now suddenly they want to knock it all down. It does not make a bit of sense.
"I'm not fussed about moving, as long as it isn't too far away."
