Teenager who caused death of Saliq Malik by dangerous driving sentenced at Bradford Crown Court

A TEENAGER who caused the death of a 15-year-old has been jailed at Bradford Crown Court.
Syam Khan had denied being behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Golf when it slid out of control and hit a church wall in Gilpin Street, Barkerend, Bradford, on September 12, 2014.
But the 19-year-old, of Kimberley Street, Laisterdyke, Bradford, was convicted by a jury last month.
Today he was jailed for four years.

Saliq Malik, 15, died in hospital from severe head and neck injuries.

Speaking after the sentencing,
Sergeant Carl Quinn, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: "This has been another tragic example of what can happen when an unlicensed and inexperienced driver gets behind the wheel of a high powered car.
"Khan showed no concern for his passengers by fleeing the scene of the crash, despite the serious injuries to Saliq, which sadly proved fatal.
"Our condolences remain with Saliq's family and we hope that the sentence passed today will give them some comfort. We are also grateful for the efforts of his father in educating young people in Bradford district about the dangers of so-called joyriding.
