A Lidl bit noisy? Residents complain in supermarket building row

Bradford Council is investigating complaints of nuisance noise being made by contractors working to extend the Lidl store on Barkerend Road

A ROW has broken out over “ridiculous” building noise created by work to extend a Bradford supermarket, with some residents claiming crews are creating a disturbance throughout the night.
Developers are currently on-site at the Lidl superstore on Barkerend Road, working to expand the store and make alterations to its entrance lobby and car park.
The company said it was being as “considerate as possible” to local residents, but said there were no restrictions on its working hours, a fact Bradford Council admitted was “regrettably” true.
One resident who has complained about the nuisance noise, but asked not to be named, said: “One Friday night the noise went on until 2am or 3am in the morning.
“Work has also been taking place on Sundays as well.
“The problem is still ongoing, and I’ve been keeping a diary.
“I spoke to someone at Lidl who apologised for the noise, but they have not said they are going to stop.
“We’ve had nothing through the door from any contractors informing us about when the work would be happening.
“There are houses all around the shop, so other people must be being affected.
“This is normally a noisy area anyway, but not in the middle of the night. It’s ridiculous.”
Bradford Council confirmed it retains a team of technical officers who deal with noise complaints and will visit sites where there are allegations of noise issues.
If the noise is commercial and classed as a statutory nuisance, a noise abatement notice can be issued, which if ignored, can lead to a fine of up to £20,000.
