UPDATE: Neighbour thought gunshot in Leeds Old Road, Bradford was firework going off

A NEIGHBOUR said he was “terrified” when what he thought were fireworks outside a nearby house just after midnight turned out to be gunshots.

An investigation is under way after a firearm was apparently fired twice at 12.20am yesterday in what police are describing as a targeted attack.

Police said a vehicle standing on the drive of the semi-detached house in Leeds Old Road, Bradford, was shot at.

Meanwhile, shot marks were visible yesterday on the downstairs bay window of the property. The car has been removed for forensic examination.

The vehicle the attacker used to drive off was found burnt out in Square Street, West Bowling, around 10 minutes later, police said.

The neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “I heard the bangs and thought it was fireworks. When I found out it was a weapon, I was shaken. I have children and grandchildren here. I know the family that lives there. They are a good, religious family. The father is well known nationally for his peace talks and he is also a school governor. It is terrifying.”

Councillor Zafar Iqbal (Labour, Bradford Moor) said he was disturbed by the shooting.
