BRADFORD is covered by a blanket of snow this morning and a number of school closures have been put in place.

Weather warnings are in place for the district, including an amber warning for snow until 11am today. Yellow warnings are also in place for the rest of today and tomorrow.

Met Office forecasters said: "Snow showers or longer periods of snow are expected on Tuesday, accompanied by very low temperatures. The heaviest, most persistent snow looks likely to cross the area during the morning."

They have warned of travel delays on roads, delays and cancellations to rail and air travel and power cuts. They have also said some rural communities could be cut off.

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "Gritters are all out now on their routes, which cover around 60 per cent of our district's roads, we know side roads are snowy but we have to make sure main routes, e.g main roads to hospitals, are all open and passable before we can move onto side roads."

The council has issued the following list of schools closed or partially closed today.
